Our Mission

The Martin Luther King, Jr. Cultural Foundation, Inc. promotes multi-cultural activities and serves as a mechanism through which concerned individuals can support enhanced social and eductional services within the Washington DC metropolitan community.

Our Priorities

  •    Awarding college scholarships;
  •    Recognizing outstanding educators;
  •    Providing mentoring and tutoring program;
    •    Organizing and leading health and wellness awareness and healthy living
              activities among community youth and adults; and
  •    Serving as advocates and volunteers in support of the social needs of individuals
            in the community.

Our History

The Martin Luther King, Jr. Cultural Foundation, Inc. is a 501 (c)(3) community-based organization that was founded in Reston, VA in 1999 and inspired by the ideals of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The Foundation brings together a highly diverse group of individuals from many facets of the community and organizations striving to make a positive difference in the lives of young people.

Our Board

The Volunteer Board governs the Foundation on behalf of the membership and other stakeholders in the Community in which the Foundation offers its services. Success in guiding an organization in the long run doesn't happen by accident. To develop an effective organization, the Martin Luther King Cultural Foundation looks to the community for volunteer leaders willing to offer investment, influence, insight and time to the betterment of the community. The Martin Luther King, Jr. Cultural Foundation seeks directors with particular backgrounds or types of expertise, financial capacity, positions in the community, or access to key constituents or professionals that can be helpful to the organization in achieving its vision and priorities.

Foundation Awards

Best of Reston Award Announcement

On April 28, 2011, the Reston Interfaith and Greater Reston Chamber of Commerce celebrated its 20th Annual Best of Reston Awards. This event honors individuals, organizations, and businesses that demonstrate commitment to community service and improving lives.

The Martin Luther King, Jr. Cultural Foundation, Inc. was recognized and honored as a top civic and community organization by the Best of Reston. As of Spring 2014,breitling show the Foundation has awarded over $350,000 to a diverse group of college-bound students in the Northern Virginia area.

On February 11, 2011, the Virginia General Assembly passed a JOINT RESOLUTION commending the Martin Luther King Jr. Foundation on its outstanding service to the residents of Northern Virginia. Noted were the Foundation's college scholarships, recognition of excellent educators, and partnership with the Northern Virginia Community College Pathway Program.
